PHILADELPHIA – An excessive heat warning currently in effect has been extended until 6PM on Tuesday, August 16, 2016. According to the National Weather Service, heat index values are expected to be 97 to 102 on Monday afternoon, 103 to 108 on Tuesday afternoon. Excessive heat causes dangerous health conditions due to prolonged hot temperatures coupled with high humidity. There is little relief at night due to higher than normal overnight temperatures.
Residents and visitors can find cooling centers and spray ground locations HERE. If you see people who are homeless and suffering from the heat, call our outreach team at (215) 232-1984. Seniors in distress or residents concerned about a senior, should call the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging (PCA)’s HeatLine (215) 765-9040. Additional information and tips for staying cool are available HERE.
