Posted on March 6, 2015 by City of PhiladelphiarnEmergencies can and do happen in Philadelphia. Check your emergency supplies before the next emergency.rnrnThis week’s ice and snowstorms are reminders that Philadelphians need to be prepared for a diverse range of weather events. The Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management encourages residents to refresh their emergency supplies when resetting their clocks for the beginning of Daylight Saving Time on Sunday, March 8, 2015.rnrn“Make sure your emergency kit is well-stocked with supplies for everyone in your home, including pets,†said Emergency Management Director Samantha Phillips. “It’s important to have a Household Emergency Plan, so everyone knows what to do in an emergency. Also, stay informed before, during and after an emergency by signing up for local emergency text and email alerts from ReadyNotifyPA.org.â€rnrnFamily Emergency Kits should have at least a three-day supply of bottled water, essential medications for each family member; foods that don’t easily perish, such as canned foods, granola or energy bars; as well as flashlights, a radio and extra batteries. Phillips recommends checking the expiration dates on any food, water, medications and batteries in your kits. If any of these items will expire in the next six months, replace them with fresh supplies and use them before they expire.rnrnWhile checking your emergency supplies, remember to test your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.
