MAYOR NUTTER ACCEPTS $60,000 “SPLASH AND SUMMER FUNd” DONATION FROM AMERICHOICE OF PENNSYLVANIA

Philadelphia, July 15, 2010 – Today at a check presentation ceremony Mayor Michael A. Nutter accepted a $60,000 donation to the City of Philadelphia’s 2010 “Splash and Summer FUNd” from AmeriChoice of Pennsylvania. This is AmeriChoice’s second $60,000 donation to the “Splash and Summer FUNd”, a public-private partnership in its second year that was established to raise funding for Philadelphia’s public swimming pools. AmeriChoice joined other private-sector donors in answering the Mayor’s call to raise $600,000 to supplement city funding to open and operate Philadelphia’s public swimming pools. This funding will keep the City’s 70 pools open throughout the 2010 summer season. These pools offer 800 job opportunities, including 400 positions for seasonal maintenance aides who keep pool areas clean and safe and an additional 400 jobs for young adults, teens, and college students from the neighborhood who serve as lifeguards.rnrn“AmeriChoice has supported a number of initiatives that promote health and well-being in the Philadelphia region and its support of the “Splash and Summer FUNd” is another example,” said Mayor Nutter. “The City is grateful to AmeriChoice for its commitment to supporting our communities and the recreational opportunities that mean so much to our residents.” Commissioner of Parks and Recreation Mike DiBerardinis said, “I’m thrilled that AmeriChoice has donated once again to the “Splash and Summer FUNd. AmeriChoice is providing families a safe and fun place close to home where they can enjoy their summer by helping the City keep its pools open.”rnrn“AmeriChoice is proud to collaborate with Mayor Nutter’s administration for the second consecutive year to help overcome the obstacles that could have resulted in the City closing its pools this summer,” said Executive Director of Pennsylvania East AmeriChoice Ernie Monfiletto. “It’s important for us to partner with the City to keep public pools open and equally important for us to bring health education and dental screenings to Philadelphia’s children at select pools and recreation sites.” rnrnFollowing the check presentation, AmeriChoice was presented with a health care Innovation Award by the National Association of Health Services Executives in recognition of its services to its Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance (CHIP) members.
