Nutter and the Philadelphia Streets Department will kick off the third annual Philly Spring Cleanup with an outdoor, morning celebration at St. Joseph’s Preparatory School, located at 18th & Girard. Mayor Nutter will join more than 150 volunteers as they begin a day of cleaning and beautifying in the vibrant North Philadelphia neighborhood.rnrnMayor Nutter will be joined on the school lawn by actor Tony Danza, the Department of Streets Commissioner Clarena I.W. Tolson, Director of Sustainability Katherine Gajewski, and a large crowd of student volunteers, North Philadelphia residents, community group representatives and Philly Spring Cleanup partner organizations. Immediately following the remarks, Mayor Nutter will lead the volunteers in the cleanup efforts like picking up trash and recyclables, pulling weeds, and painting homes and storefronts.rnrnThis will be a highly visual event that will feature remarks from the City of Philadelphia’s top officials. City Year members will perform a warm-up routine with Mayor Nutter to kick off the event. Famed Philadelphia mascots will be present. Moore: Volunteers from the neighborhood and the Mayor’s Office will be painting and cleaning the recreation center basketball court, playground, pool area and baseball diamond.rn10: 45 am- Fresh Start, 3023 Frankford Ave.: More than 250 volunteers will cleanup and beautify Kensington neighborhood. Distribution of recycling bins and sign-ups for Philadelphia Recycling Rewards program.rn11:15 am- South Philadelphia High School, 2101 S. Broad St.: Volunteers will cleanup surrounding South Philadelphia streets and prune trees planted during the 2009 Philly Spring Cleanup. Target, the lead corporate supporter, team members will be participating in all volunteer activities that day.rn11:45 am- Enterprise CDC, 4538 Market St.: Activities will include work on a community garden in a vacant lot near the 46 El Station, vacant lot cleaning, playground and schoolyard beautification and transformation of a 13,000 + square foot abandoned building into a Center for Culinary Enterprises- which will aim to improve the under-served commercial corridor.
