Mayor Nutter, City And Community Officials Break Ground On North Philadelphia Athletic Field

Posted on July 30, 2014 by City of PhiladelphiarnThe 11th Street and Cecil B. Moore Avenue Field is home to the Blackhawks Youth Football Team, winners of the 2010 Pop Warner Pee Wee National ChampionshiprnrnPhiladelphia, July 30, 2014 – Mayor Michael A. Nutter, City officials and community members broke ground on a $2.5 million renovation project at the athletic field located at 11th Street & Cecil B. Moore Avenue in North Philadelphia. The project is the result of a partnership between the City of Philadelphia, St. Joseph’s Preparatory School, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Philadelphia Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC).rnrn“After the Blackhawks won the national championship, I promised that the City would work to build them a new field,” said Mayor Nutter. “Almost one year ago, I was proud to officially announce that the fundraising effort was underway and the project would commence. With today’s groundbreaking ceremony, we are demonstrating to our young people that when you work hard, good things happen. This new field is a hard-earned reward for all that they’ve accomplished. I look forward to watching games when the work is complete.”rnrnThe 11th & Cecil B. Moore field, built in 1970, is the home field of The Blackhawks Athletic Club. The restoration project will replace the existing grass field with new artificial turf, which will cover the entire playing surface, including the baseball field in the Southeast corner of the lot. New field goal posts and a scoreboard will be installed, as well as new paving, fencing, and landscaping. Seravalli Inc. is the contracting company providing these renovations.rnrn“The Eagles are proud to be part of this great restoration project. This new athletic field will be able to host a multiple of athletic and recreational activities and we hope it serves as an inspiration for kids of all ages to live out their dreams,” said Eagles President Don Smolenski. “We would like to thank the Philadelphia Recreation Advisory Council, St. Joe’s Prep, LISC and the community for their vision and desire to provide a home for the Blackhawks Athletic Club.”rnrnThe St. Joseph’s Prep athletic teams will share the renovated field with the Blackhawks and community members. Additionally, they plan to be a neighborhood partner by providing athletic clinics and camps, as well as mentoring for local athletes and coaches.rnrn“This is a project that we are very excited about and we are happy to see progress being made here at the site,” says Rev. George W. Bur, S.J., President of St. Joseph’s Prep. “The Prep has been a proud member of this North Philadelphia neighborhood since the 1880s and we look forward to the opportunity to share these fields with the Blackhawks and other community groups while also giving our student-athletes access to this high-quality practice site. The opportunities for collaboration and interaction are great and we look forward to them.”rnrnAndrew Frishkoff, Director of LISC, said, “This new field affirms LISC’s commitment to help neighbors build strong communities in North Philadelphia. Over the past 25 years, we’ve invested over $50 million here and helped finance over 900 homes. But it takes more than decent, affordable housing and safe streets to make a community healthy. Kids in every neighborhood deserve a quality environment to play, exercise and learn.”rnrnThe Blackhawks Athletic Club was established in 1968 as a Basketball program designed to keep young men off the streets and active in youth sports. The Blackhawks are celebrating 46 years of serving the youth of Philadelphia this year. There are more than 300 children registered in its football program, which encompasses 9 teams and several weight classes. The Blackhawks Athletic Club also has several teams in its basketball, baseball and cheerleading programs.rnrn“The Blackhawks Athletic Club is very excited about the new changes, and we appreciate the opportunity for our youth to be able to play on a state-of-the-art football field. In addition, having a growing relationship with St. Joseph’s Prep gives our kids the firsthand experience of competing at the next level of football. We want to especially thank Mayor Nutter and everyone involved for making it happen. This was well deserved and we appreciate everything, we look forward to new experiences to come,” said Don Richardson, Blackhawks Athletic Director.rnrn###rnrn rnrnABOUT PHILADELPHIA PARKS & RECREATIONrnrnPhiladelphia Parks & Recreation advances the prosperity of the city and the progress of her people through intentional and sustained stewardship of public land and waterways as well as through safe, stimulating recreation, environmental and cultural centers. Tiệm 7-Eleven Bán $1 Big Bite® Hot Dog Mừng Ngày Hot Dog Hôm Nay

Dollar Hot Dog Day at 7-Eleven®rnRetailer Offers $1 Big Bite® Hot Dogs to Celebrate National Hot Dog DayrnrnDALLAS, July 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — 7-Eleven, Inc. is on a roll this July. Kicking off the month was the launch of Doritos Loadedâ„¢ cheese snacks, followed by 7-Eleven Day (July 11) with free Slurpee® drinks and a birthday celebration that runs through Thursday, July 24. And now … National Hot Dog Day.rnrnParticipating 7-Eleven® stores will usher in the unofficial holiday tomorrow, July 23, with $1 Quarter-Pound Big Bite® all-beef hot dogs. The dollar dogs are available all day at participating stores while supplies last.rnrnBecause 7-Eleven is still celebrating its birthday with 7-Eleven Week offers, guests can wash down their Big Bite hot dog with a free Big Gulp® soft drink, which is the day’s free item featured on 7-Eleven’s smartphone app.rnrnTo redeem the free Big Gulp offer, customers can simply show the barcode found in the “What’s in Store” section of the app at the checkout counter of a participating 7-Eleven store. The app offer is limited to one free item per person, per day.rnrnHot dog fans can build the Big Bite of their dreams with a wide variety of condiments. Hot chili, melted cheese, onions, relish, diced tomatoes, pickles, mayonnaise, sauerkraut, jalapenos, salsa, pico de gallo and, of course, ketchup and mustard are free of charge.rnrnAlthough 7-Eleven began offering hot dogs in its stores in the early 1970s, its branded Big Bite® hot dogs rolled out in 1988, along with the company’s now ubiquitous roller grills. Big Bite hot dogs are made using a proprietary all-beef recipe created exclusively for 7-Eleven.rnrnSince 1957, July has been designated National Hot Dog Month to celebrate the All-American wiener and bun. And while the simple hot dog may be an all-American favorite, the condiments with which Americans choose to dress their dogs vary across the country. rnrn7-Eleven customers’ regional favorites include … brown mustard and sauerkraut in New York, chili in Kansas City, cheese in the South, jalapenos and pico de gallo in Texas, mayo in Los Angeles and, in the Big Bite hot dog-eating capitol of Washington, D.C., chili and cheese. rnrnSelect Chicagoland stores offer sport peppers, dill pickle spears, sliced tomatoes, celery salt and poppy seed buns to create an authentic Chicago-style experience.rnrn7-Eleven even keeps kosher in Monsey, N.Y., where the store’s loyal fans might top their Big Bite hot dogs with hummus, sweet peppers and garlic mayo, toppings exclusive to that store.rnrn”Hot dogs in summertime are as American as baseball, lemonade and, well, 7-Eleven, of course,” said Nancy Smith, 7-Eleven senior vice president of fresh foods and proprietary beverages merchandising. “Not only is July National Hot Dog Month, it’s also the month when 7-Eleven sells the most Big Bite hot dogs.”rnrnThe National Hot Dog and Sausage Council estimates that Americans eat more than 20 billion hot dogs each year, almost 40 percent during the peak hot dog season, between Memorial Day and Labor Day.rnrnOne legend says the term “hot dog” was coined by a New York cartoonist who couldn’t spell the hot “dachshund” sausages he observed a vendor selling during a baseball game. In a newspaper cartoon, he sketched a real dachshund dog, smeared with mustard, in a bun, being sold by a vendor shouting, “Get your hot dog.”rnrnTrivia: Coincidentally, the hot dog holiday ushers in the dog days of summer, named for the star Sirius, or the “dog star.” In ancient Rome, the dog days ran from July 23 or 24, when Sirius appeared in the sky, through the same date in August, according to Wikipedia. The time period differs in other traditions, but typically falls in July and August.rnrnAbout 7-Eleven, Inc.rn7-Eleven, Inc. is the premier name and largest chain in the convenience retailing industry. CDR Assessment Group Sponsors the Lucky-To-Be-Alive “Mrs. Pennsylvania 2014,” as a Contestant for the Mrs. USA Pageant this Week in Las Vegas

Angela Parsons-Mazurek was crowned Mrs. Pennsylvania Pageant in Pittsburgh on May 4, 2014 and competes July 23-25 in Las Vegas for the Mrs. USA title.rnnnrnrnnnrnnnPhiladelphia, PA (PRWEB) July 20, 2014nnAngela is not a typical beauty pageant contestant. Many are amazed Angela is alive today let alone competing in, and winning, a beauty pageant at age 29.nnrnnnOn a Sunday morning in December of 2007, Angela was in a horrific car wreck when visiting her parents for the holidays in rural Oklahoma. She was hit head on by a pick-up truck while on her way to the gym. Earlier that year, she had graduated college from Missouri State University with a degree in economics (with honors) where she was also captain of the Women’s Collegiate Soccer Team. In high school, she had been an Oklahoma All State Soccer Team member and a valedictorian at Broken Arrow High School.nnrnnnAfter having been cut out of her brother’s Durango by the Jaws of Life by the Skiatook Rescue Squad late Sunday morning, she was life-flighted to St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The emergency brake pedal was impaled through her left leg and actually helped block some of the bleeding. At the time of the accident, Angela had been training as a marathon runner, preparing for a half marathon. The accident caused her to lose nearly two thirds of her blood content. Surviving this blood loss would not have been possible without the changes to her metabolism due to her rigorous training. The surgeons fought hard for over eight hours that first day to save her life and leg, with another arduous surgery the next day, and many more surgeries to follow.nnrnnnAfter a week in ICU and an induced coma, Angela spent 4 more weeks in the hospital with a Kirshner’s apparatus speared through both of her legs as part of the treatment needed for this type of leg trauma. About two weeks later while on the post-surgery floor, one of the original surgeons paid her a visit. He said he just wanted to see her – because he couldn’t believe she was alive.nnrnnnSixteen surgeries later, years of rehab, lots of prayer, and with amazing determination and blessings — she fought back to regain a normal and productive life. She was married to Edward Mazurek, Esq. at her dream wedding at the Bellagio in Las Vegas with her friends and family there to celebrate. Today, Angela is a sales account representative for Insperity and is based in Philadelphia. She enjoys the challenges and pace. Previous to that role, she was a sales representative at CDR Assessment Group in Tulsa.nnrnnnAfter about her 12th surgery, she had asked Dr. Brent Norris, who was her primary trauma orthopedic surgeon, how other patients he had who had gone through so many surgeries, like her, reacted to the therapy. He responded, “I don’t have any other patients who have survived that many surgeries – your it.”nnrnnnSo, with grace, beauty, and unmatched determination and drive, Angela is proud and excited to represent Pennsylvania with great hopes as she enters the Mrs. USA Pageant. No matter the outcome in Las Vegas, Angela is truly living — and her American dream is unfolding each day.nnrnnnTulsa based CDR Assessment Group, Inc. is proud to be one of Angela’s Mrs. USA Pageant sponsors. Since 1998, CDR has been providing break-through assessments and leadership development and talent management services for global clients.
