MAYOR NUTTER TO LAUNCH PHILLYWORKS: GROWING NEIGHBORHOOD JOBSrnWHO: Mayor Michael A. NutterrnPhiladelphia Workforce Development CorporationrnPhiladelphia Workforce Investment BoardrnrnWHAT: Mayor Nutter will launch PhillyWorks: Growing Neighborhood Jobs, an initiative designed to transition part-time seasonal workers to full time, year round employment. Program participants will develop their job skills though career advancement classes (such as adult literacy) and career coaching services while they continue to work part time. After participants complete their career advancement classes, they will receive paid on-the-job training and are ultimately expected to find full-time jobs Philadelphia-based companies engaged in the Workforce Investment Board’s Industry Partnerships.rnrnThis program is innovative because it leverages several funding streams and coordinates efforts across several organizations and departments including PA CareerLink, the Philadelphia Workforce Development Corporation, the Philadelphia Workforce Investment Board, workforce literacy providers, the Mayor’s Office, the Mayor’s Office of Community Services and the Commerce Department.rnrnWHERE: PA CareerLink – Suburban Stationrn1617 JFK Blvd, 2nd FloorrnrnWHEN: Monday, January 11, 2010 9:00 am
