Daylight Saving Time ends on Sunday, November 4, 2012 and the Managing Director’s Office of Emergency Management reminds Philadelphians to refresh their emergency supplies when resetting their clocks.rnrn rnrn“Make sure you have emergency kits for your home and vehicles with all of the necessary supplies,†said Deputy Managing Director for Emergency Management Samantha Phillips. “If you haven’t put together a Home Emergency Kit or a Go Bag for use when evacuating your home, this is a good time to get your kits ready for the upcoming winter.â€rnrn rnrnFamily Emergency Kits should have at least a three-day supply of bottled water, essential medications for each family member, and foods that don’t easily perish, such as canned foods, granola or energy bars, a flashlight, radio and extra batteries. Phillips recommends checking the expiration dates on any food, water and batteries in your kits. If any of these items will expire in the next six months, replace them with fresh supplies and use them before they expire.rnrn rnrn“Pets are part of the family, too,†Phillips said. “Include a three-day emergency supply for them, as well.â€rnrn rnrnWhile checking your emergency supplies, remember to test your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors to make sure they are in good working condition. It’s also a good idea to sign up for ReadyNotifyPA, the region’s emergency text and email alert system, by logging on to www.phila.gov/ready and clicking on the ReadyNotifyPA button.rnrn rnrnFor more information on emergency preparedness, ReadyNotifyPA, or a detailed list of supplies for a Family Emergency Kit, Go Bag or Pet Emergency Kit, visit www.phila.gov/ready or call 3-1-1.
